Week 15 Analysis

How did the reading go for you this week? What struck you the most in this week's reading? Were there ideas you struggled with?
I really liked this quote from one of the readings
“As a writer, you’d be foolish if you weren’t pushing yourself to get to the heart of things,” she says. “Our surface feelings – the ones where you rant and rave at people, and glorify and denigrate yourself – aren’t the most interesting.

Where did you do your best writing this week — in this class? In another class?  Have you discovered some good strategies for helping yourself focus on writing for this class?
My favorite writing this week was for one of my History classes where we had to write an essay about a book we just finished "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl."

Did you read something excellent written by someone else in the class? What made it stand out to you?
I read several posts for this class and my other classes and commented on a few of them.

How are things going in your other classes? Are there any connections you are noticing between your other classes and stuff you are doing for this class?
We had to give a peer review of our essays in one of my History classes.  These always seem awkward because you want to be helpful without being hurtful.

What are your plans and hopes for next week in this class? In your other classes?

Starting smaller assignments early this week since I have a final draft of an essay due this Sunday and several other assignments due this week.  Starting to prepare for finals in classes I am the least confident in.

Literary Analysis Week 5

Joaquin Miller      In his writing, Joaquin speaks about the ocean and atmosphere around him in California including the Sierras and the snow beyond.  He seems to be taken aback by the majesty of the area.  He speaks of the ocean and the mines and the opportunities that lie within for the miners and opportunities for trade across the sea.  The opportunities that await all those that venture there.  The way he describes the ocean it's as if he is using it as a metaphor for the endless opportunities he sees in California during this time period.  Being somewhat of a blank slate, so to speak, the opportunity to build a life would be up to those brave enough to make the journey.  The lives they choose to create out of this environment would be completely up to them and how they wish their lives to be.  This no doubt had some influence in his decision to return to California and make his home in the Oakland Hills after traveling abr...

Weekly Review Week 13

How did the reading go for you this week? What struck you the most in this week's reading? Were there ideas you struggled with?       Didn't read as much as I wanted to this week.  Work has been super busy so I will need to extend some of my scheduled reading this coming week in order to finish. Where did you do your best writing this week — in this class? In another class?  Have you discovered some good strategies for helping yourself focus on writing for this class?     My best writing this week was in my theatre class.  We had to write several pieces and discussion topics. Did you read something excellent written by someone else in the class? What made it stand out to you?       I read several posts from classmates this week and commented on several either for project planning or reading notes they took on books I am not reading for my project.  It's interesting to read about the other options people c...

Taking Stock Week 13

Planning to do the majority of my reading early in this week to leave more of a buffer at the end of the week.  With work taking up more than the usual amount of time this past week, I did not accomplish as much as I had planned.
